Iris alpha
Help us test Iris
Iris is an AI assistant that lives on your computer and your phone. We are inviting a small group of people to use her every day, tell us what breaks, and earn points for the real bugs they find.
This page explains everything you are signing up for. Please read it before you join.
What Iris is #
On a Mac, Iris lives on your desktop as a small animated character. You say "Iris" and ask for something out loud, and she does it:
- plays music, pauses it, skips a song
- sets timers, alarms and reminders
- opens, switches and closes apps
- drafts a WhatsApp message and sends it only after you say yes
- answers questions, including ones that need a quick look on the web
- remembers things you tell her, like your sister's name or your favourite cafe
On your phone (iPhone, iPad or Android), Iris is a chat app. She answers questions, makes documents, remembers things for you, and can send jobs to your Mac to do while you are away. On iPhone you can also send her voice notes.
On Windows, Iris is the newest and least finished version.
She is an AI, not a person, and she will tell you so the first time you talk to her.
What you are signing up for #
You are joining the alpha: the earliest version anyone outside our team uses.
- Iris will break. Some features are half-done, and you will hit problems. Finding them is the point.
- We ask you to use her for real, in your normal day, and to report what goes wrong on this site.
- It is free. Testers get higher daily limits than the free plan, so you can actually use her.
- You earn points for real bugs, and cash them out in rupees (see below).
- Keep it to yourself. Please do not share screenshots or details of Iris publicly while we are in alpha.
- You must be 18 or older.
You can stop at any time. Just stop using the app, or write to us.
How the alpha works #
- Sign up on this site. It takes a minute.
- We review your request and send you an email when you are approved, with your download links.
- Install Iris on your devices using the step-by-step guides.
- Use her every day. Ask her things, try her features, use her the way you normally would.
- When something goes wrong, report it on the Report a bug page. Tell us what you did and what happened, and add a screenshot or a short video if you can. Give us your Iris account email and we pull the technical logs ourselves; you never have to find log files.
- Our AI checks your report within minutes and tells you by email: a real new bug, already reported by someone else, not a bug (Iris is meant to work that way), or a question if it needs more detail.
- Our team fixes real bugs, starting with the ones that block the most testers. We email you when your bug is fixed.
- Your points become final once the bug is fixed and we approve the award, and you can cash out.
You can follow every report you sent on the My reports page.
Points and payouts #
Points are for real, new bugs only, and they depend on how hard the bug was to find:
| How hard it was to find | Points |
|---|---|
| Hard: rare steps, a timing problem, something that only happens in one situation | 300 |
| Medium: a real feature breaks in a normal way of using it | 100 |
| Easy: obvious problems anyone would hit, like the app not installing or not opening | 50 |
| Polish: small things like wording, layout or a glitch in her look | 20 |
- At the alpha level, 1 point is worth Rs 1.
- Duplicates and things that are not bugs earn nothing, so check Known issues before you report.
- Points stay pending until the bug is fixed and we approve the award, then become final.
- Cash out by UPI, paid weekly, once you have Rs 200 or more. We only ask for your UPI id when you first cash out.
- Each tester can earn up to Rs 2,500 in the alpha.
- Good testers move up: more confirmed bugs bring higher daily limits, then a place in the beta with a higher rate per point.
Full rules are on the Points and payouts page.
How updates reach you #
We release new builds often, sometimes more than once a day.
- Mac: Iris updates herself. When a new version is ready, she asks you to restart.
- iPhone and iPad: updates arrive through TestFlight, Apple's app for testing.
- Android and Windows: we email you when a new build is out, with a download link. If your version gets too old, the app tells you and sends you here to update.
Step-by-step details are on the Updating Iris page.
How we talk to each other #
- Emails from us come from alpha@irisforu.com: your approval, a reply to every report you send, a note when your bug is fixed, new builds, and payouts.
- Your reports and points are always on My reports.
- Ideas and suggestions are welcome any time on the Feedback page. It takes a minute, and we read every note.
- Anything else, write to support@irisforu.com. A real person reads every email.
Your privacy #
Iris listens for her name, reads your screen on a Mac to understand what you are doing, and remembers what you tell her. We explain exactly what she takes in, what leaves your device, how long it is kept, and how to switch each part off on the What Iris sees page. Please read it before you install.
What you need #
Any one of these is enough. You do not need a Mac. Testing on just your phone is just as useful to us.
- An iPhone, iPad or Android phone: the chat app, with questions, documents, memory, and voice notes on iPhone. It works fully on its own.
- A Mac with an Apple chip (M1 or newer): the full desktop Iris, with voice, music, WhatsApp, reminders and opening apps.
- A Windows PC: the newest, least finished version.
If you have more than one, use them together: your phone can send jobs to your Mac.
