Apps, websites and your Mac

Needs your Mac for everything on this page except making documents and asking questions, which also work on your phone.

Iris needs the Accessibility permission to press keys and click for you, and Automation for some apps. If she says a permission is missing, see Install on Mac.

Apps #

  • "Iris, open Spotify." She matches the name to what is installed, so "Iris, open chrome" opens Google Chrome.
  • "Iris, Slack." Just naming an app brings it to the front.
  • "Iris, switch to WhatsApp."
  • "Iris, hide Mail."
  • "Iris, quit Spotify."

Websites and browser tabs #

Tab commands work best in Google Chrome and browsers built on it, like Brave, Edge and Arc.

Say What happens
"Iris, open youtube" Opens the website
"Iris, google best budget phones" Opens a Google search on screen
"Iris, switch to the Gmail tab" Finds the tab by a loose description
"Iris, how many tabs do I have open?" Counts them and says from which sites
"Iris, what page am I on?" Says the page title
"Iris, close this tab" Closes the tab in front
"Iris, close the duplicate tabs" Closes repeats
"Iris, tidy my tabs" Suggests tabs to close and asks you first
"Iris, reopen that tab" Brings back what was just closed
"Iris, save these tabs for later" Saves the set so you can reopen it
"Iris, go back" / "reload" Browser back, refresh
"Iris, scroll down a bit" Scrolls the window you are reading
"Iris, copy this link" Puts the page address on your clipboard

Your Mac's settings #

  • Volume: "louder", "turn it down", "volume to 40", "mute".
  • Screen: "dim the screen", "brighter".
  • "Iris, turn on dark mode."
  • "Iris, turn off Wi-Fi." She checks that it really changed.
  • "Iris, turn on Do Not Disturb."
  • "Iris, how's my battery?"
  • "Iris, lock my screen."

Clipboard and her pocket #

  • "Iris, what's on my clipboard?"
  • "Iris, copy hello world." Puts text on your clipboard.
  • You can drop a file, link or text onto Iris with your mouse. She holds it. "Iris, what are you holding?" "Iris, give that back" puts it on your clipboard so you can paste it.

Documents (also on your phone) #

Ask for a real file and she makes it: a Word document, an Excel sheet, slides or a PDF.

  • "Iris, make me a packing list doc for a Goa trip."
  • "Iris, write a leave letter as a Word file."
  • "Iris, turn this PDF into slides." (after you drop the PDF on her)
  • "Iris, open the doc you made."

Questions (also on your phone) #

When you want an answer, not a page of search results, just ask:

  • "Iris, what is the price of a geyser in India?"
  • "Iris, who won the match last night?"
  • "Iris, find out when the passport office opens."

She looks it up and tells you the short answer, with sources on screen.

Terminal (for people who code) #

Iris can run commands in Terminal and manage its tabs: "Iris, run git status", "Iris, open claude dev in the terminal", "Iris, switch to the second terminal tab", "Iris, close the other terminal tabs". She leaves tabs that are busy alone unless you say "force".

Anything else #

If no built-in skill fits, Iris may pass the job to a slower AI helper that works it out step by step. It can take a while. If it fails or does the wrong thing, report it with the exact words you used.

What to test #

  • App names said casually, or slightly wrong.
  • Iris saying "done" when nothing changed. That is a real bug. Note what you asked and the time.
  • Iris closing or changing something you did not ask for. Report that straight away.
