Needs your Mac, with the WhatsApp Desktop app installed and signed in on that Mac. Iris works through the WhatsApp app on your Mac, so it must be set up there first. Not available on Windows yet.
Iris also needs the Accessibility permission, because she types the message for you. See Install on Mac.
The one rule: nothing is sent until you say so #
A wrong message to the wrong person cannot be taken back. So Iris never sends on her own. She opens the chat, types the message, and reads it back to you:
Ready to send to Mom: "I'll be late." Say send to confirm, or cancel.
- To send: say "send it", "yes", "okay", "haan" or "bhej do".
- To stop: say "cancel", "no", "leave it" or "rehne do".
You do not need to say her name for this answer. Listen to the name in the read-back carefully. If it is the wrong person, say "cancel".
Send a message #
- "Iris, WhatsApp Mom I'll be late."
- "Iris, message Priya saying on my way."
- "Iris, text Rohan I'll call him tonight."
- "Iris, send it to me: buy milk." ("Me" means your own number.)
If a name matches more than one contact, she asks which one you mean.
Reply #
- "Iris, reply that I'll call tonight." Replies in the chat that is open on your screen.
- "Iris, reply to the last message saying sounds good." Replies to whoever messaged you most recently, and tells you their name first.
Send a file or link #
If you dropped a file onto Iris, or she made a document for you:
- "Iris, send the PDF to Asha."
- "Iris, send the doc you made to me."
Read your messages #
- "Iris, any new messages?" Tells you who has unread messages, and reads the newest.
- "Iris, what did Mom say?" Reads the last few messages from that person.
Open or search #
- "Iris, open my chat with Priya." Opens the chat, sends nothing.
- "Iris, search WhatsApp for the family group."
Email is separate #
For email, Iris makes a draft in the Mail app and opens it for you to check. She never sends email herself. "Iris, email Asha that the meeting is moved to Friday."
What to test #
- Names: short names, nicknames, Indian names, names that sound alike.
- Messages with numbers, times or mixed Hindi and English.
- Saying "send it" a few seconds later, or after something else happened.
- Most important: if a message was ever sent without you confirming, or went to the wrong person, stop and report it straight away. That is the most serious kind of bug.
- If Iris says she pressed send but could not check it went, look in WhatsApp and tell us what happened.
