Music

Needs your Mac. Music plays on the Mac where Iris is running.

Play something #

Say what you want to hear: a song, an artist, a genre or a mood.

  • "Iris, play Tum Hi Ho."
  • "Iris, play some Arijit Singh."
  • "Iris, play some lo-fi music."
  • "Iris, play something calm."

Iris finds it and plays it herself, with no window opening. She lines up a few songs, so it carries on like a playlist. The first song takes a few seconds to start, because she has to fetch it first.

While music plays, Iris dances along.

Control what is playing #

These work on Iris's own music, and also on Spotify, Apple Music, or YouTube in your browser, whichever is playing.

Say What happens
"Iris, pause" Pauses
"Iris, resume" Carries on
"Iris, next song" or "Iris, skip this" Next track
"Iris, previous song" Back one track
"Iris, stop the music" Stops
"Iris, what's this song?" Tells you what is playing, and in which app
"Iris, play my liked songs" Plays your liked songs from your Spotify or Apple Music library

After she pauses or skips, she checks that it really happened. If Spotify did not respond, she should tell you that, not say "Done".

Volume #

  • "Iris, louder" or "Iris, turn it down" changes the volume one step.
  • "Iris, volume to 30" sets an exact level.
  • "Iris, mute" and "Iris, unmute".

When you say her name while music is playing, the music goes quieter so she can hear you, then comes back.

From your phone #

You can send a music request as an errand from your phone, for example "Play some old Kishore Kumar songs on my Mac". Your Mac must be on, with Iris open. See Phone and Mac together.

What to test #

  • Songs in Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil and other languages, by name and by artist.
  • Moods: "something to study to", "party songs".
  • Saying her name and "pause" while a loud song is playing.
  • She says she is playing something but you hear nothing, or she plays the wrong thing. Note the exact words you used.
  • A talk or a video plays instead of music.
