Memory

Works on your phone alone, and on your Mac. Memory belongs to your account, so what Iris learns on your Mac she also knows on your phone, and the other way round.

Tell her to remember #

  • "Iris, remember that my sister's name is Asha."
  • "Iris, don't forget I'm vegetarian."
  • "Iris, note that my flat is 4B."

On your phone, type the same thing in the chat.

She uses what she knows to give you better answers, without asking the same questions again. For example, after "remember that I live in Pune", "will it rain tomorrow?" can be about Pune.

Iris may also pick up facts about you from your conversations with her, over time. If something she picked up is wrong, delete it (below).

Ask what she knows #

  • "Iris, what do you know about me?"
  • "Iris, what have you remembered?"

Make her forget #

  • "Iris, forget my address."
  • "Iris, delete what you know about my job."

See and delete everything #

On your Mac:

  1. Press Command + Shift + C to open the chat window.

  2. Click Memory at the top.

  3. You see everything she remembers, newest first. Things she is not sure about are marked "a guess".

  4. Delete any single item.

  5. Or use Forget everything. She asks you to confirm before she deletes it all.

On your phone:

  1. Tap Iris at the top of the chat to open your profile.

  2. Tap What Iris remembers.

  3. Remove anything you do not want her to keep.

Switch memory off #

On your Mac, in the Memory view, use the switch at the top. When memory is off, Iris neither learns new things nor uses what she already knows. What is already stored stays there until you delete it.

Other things Iris keeps on your Mac #

These are not part of her memory, but you may want to know about them:

  • What she knows about today. A list of the apps and page titles you used today, so she understands what you are working on. Titles only, never web addresses, and nothing is kept overnight. To clear it: open the Control Panel (Command + Shift + P) and click Clear next to "What she knows about today".
  • Her pocket. Files, links and text you drop on her. "Iris, what are you holding?" To empty it: "Iris, clear your pocket."

What to test #

  • Something you told her that she later got wrong, or forgot.
  • Something she "remembered" that you never said. Report that, with the exact words she used.
  • Deleting an item on your phone and checking that your Mac forgot it too.
  • "Forget" said in different ways.
